Naomh Colmcille lined out against Convoy last night in Division 3 of the league.
The visitors started the stronger of the two teams and registered two early points. Naomh Colmcille then saw one effort come off the posts and another drift narrowly wide and Cathal Curran and Gerard Devenney had to combine to prevent a goal for Convoy. Christpoher Moore got the home side off the mark with a well taken point hooked over his shoulder with his back to goal. Convoy dominated the second quarter, however, and scored three further points and a goal to leave the half time scores at 0-1 to 1-5.
Convoy’s dominance continued as the second half got underway as they registered a further goal and 3 points without reply before Matthew Crossan put a free over for the home side. Ryan McKinley had a strong claim for a penalty waved away by the referee, but shortly after managed to get his hand to a breaking ball and score a goal from close range. Naomh Colmcille finished strongly and scored a further 4 points in the final quarter, with scores from Paddy O’Donnell, Ruction, and two from Ryan McKinley. However, although Convoy were no longer dominating as they had done earlier in the match, they were strong enough to continue to score and ran out deserving winners in the end, with a score of 1-6 to 2-12.
