Minors victory against Glenfin puts them in final

Naomh Colmcille Under 18s were involved in a winner take all match on Monday past away to Glenfin. Both teams were unbeaten before the game and both had a chance to win the league, depending on the outcome. It proved to be a nail biting game from start to finish for all involved.

Glenfin attacked from the first whistle, and it was not long until they shocked Naomh Colmcille with a goal in the opening minutes of the game. Naomh Colmcille managed to stay within touching distance with Glenfin in the first half due to accurate free kicks from Mark Dowds, and scores from Barry O’Donnell and Thomas McKinley.

It was clear that both teams were well matched with the full forward line of Glenfin proving to be the greatest challenge face by the defence this year. Naomh Colmcille managed to end the half 1 point up.
In many ways the second half was as exciting as the first, Glenfin pulled level a couple of times in this half and at times were in front. Scores from Dowds, Ryan McErlean and Thomas McKinley were enough to steady Naomh Colmcille through this rough patch.

The game was turned on its head with the introduction of Oisin McMenamin for Naomh Colmcille who arrived late in the second half. He got the ball and stuck it the back of the net. This put the visitors 2 points up. A great block from captain Alex and a great display from Dadhy in the defence also did not go unnoticed.

Scores from Thomas, Ryan and Dowds finished the game off in the dying minutes and gave Naomh Colmcille a hard earned and well deserved victory.
